Spiritual Earth of Venezuela

Physiographically, the most outstanding feature of the state is the presence of a large expanse of flat lands that represent 77% of the state surface, corresponding this landscape to the Los Llanos Natural Region and the remaining 23% to the Los Andes Natural Region. The piedmont and high plains cover 70% of the flat land of the state, characterized basically by a flat relief, low slope and fertile soils of alluvial origin subject to occasional floods, with numerous forests that have been intensively intervened in the last decades . The remaining 30% corresponds to the low plains, whose main feature is that they are subject to long-term flooding. The northern foothills of the Andes are integrated by a set of rows of mountain ranges, these mountain and piedmont landscapes have heights ranging between 400 and 2 200 m.s.n.m., located to the northwest of the entity.

The Portuguese state has a large area covered with forests, which fulfill several functions of great importance as: protection of soils in the slopes, regulation of water runoff, protection of wildlife and wood production; Most of these functions have now been affected by the elimination of vegetation due to the expansion of the agricultural frontier, leading to the loss of protective and productive woodlands to replace them in many cases by other farms and Low-yield livestock. Even legal figures are not respected, as is the case of the Turén Forest Reserve that has been the object of strong disaffection and invasion.

The fauna of the entity is very rich, the diversity present in the plant formations in terms of physiognomy, density, thickness and arrangement of its components generates a high variability of species. There are large mammals, both herbivorous and predatory, being the most representative of the area the deer, tapir, honey bear and fox crab

Poblacion del Estado

La población 

La población estudiada se seleccionó de los asistentes a los ambulatorios adscritos al Ministerio de Salud y Desarrollo Social (MSDS) y de los institutos educativos, públicos y privados, registrados en Ministerio de Educación y Deportes (MED). La información fue suministrada por 444 informantes claves que residen en 444 viviendas, en las cuales habitan 2.576 personas.

 El grupo poblacional estudiado, mediante el método de Estratificación Social Graffar Méndez Castellano, estuvo conformado de la siguiente manera: 0,6%, del estrato II, 5,0% del estrato III, 29,5%, del estrato IV y 64,3% del estrato .

Breve Historia 

      Portuguesa es uno de los 23 estados de Venezuela, ubicado al occidente de la República, es considerado "El Granero de Venezuela" por la gran cantidad de productos agrícolas que allí se obtienen. El estado limita al norte con el Estado Lara, al este con el Estado Cojedes, al oeste con el Estado Trujillo y al sur con el Estado Barinas. 

El estado fue designado con ese nombre a partir del 4 de agosto de 1909 en honor al Río Portuguesa. Según la leyenda el Río Portuguesa fue bautizado con ese nombre por haberse ahogado en sus aguas una mujer oriunda de Portugal; sin embargo también se señala que el nombre del río fue colocado en homenaje a la colonia Portuguesa que se residenció en nuestro territorio desde la época de la colonia.
Guanare fue fundada en 1591.

 En 1786, cuando se creó la Comandancia General de Barinas, formó parte de ella, quedando comprendida en la Provincia de Caracas. En 1824, los cantones de Guanare, Ospino y Araure fueron separados de la Provincia de Caracas y reincorporados a la de Barinas.
En 1851, se creó la Provincia de Portuguesa con los cantones Guanare, Araure, Guanarito y Ospino. En 1881, Portuguesa, Cojedes y Zamora, se fusionaron en el Gran Estado Sur de Occidente, unión que duró hasta 1909, cuando fue creado el estado Portuguesa. En 1927 Acarigua asumió el papel de capital, pero en 1937 volvió a ser designada Guanare, que ha permanecido hasta nuestros dias .
